If you feel mortified with your acne, then here are tips to help prevent acne. Just follow a simple routine of cleansing supported by healthy eating habits and exercise to thwart the skin rupturing into unsightly and irritable acne. Given below are a few tips that will aid you in your quest for acne free living

Cleansing

Acne gets aggravated because of bad hygiene. Make it a point to wash your face at least twice a day to remove all the impurities, dirt, and grime and make up. Always use lukewarm water and a mild facial cleanser. Do not use harsh soaps like deodorant body soap which will only inflame the skin more. Do not scrub. Gently wash and dry with a clean towel.

Moisturize

Since oily skin is one of the components for acne to sprout, all acne cleaning products dry the skin. Hence you must moisturize religiously to prevent dryness and skin peeling.

Minimize use of makeup

It is always better to keep your skin free of harmful chemicals found in foundations, powder or blush. If you must use cosmetics then go for oil free products. Do not forget to remove the makeup and clean your face at the end of the day.

Hair matters

Often acne can be the by-product of poor hair hygiene. Clean your hair regularly and minimize the use of hair sprays, gels and pomades. Go for a safe and gentle shampoo.

Don’t pick the pustules

Don’t irritate the already inflamed skin by picking or popping the pustules. This way you spread more bacteria and exacerbate the acne. This can also lead to permanent scaring and severe infection.

Avoid the sun

Exposure to UV rays will worsen the inflammation and redness associated with acne. It will also cause hyper pigmentation. Avoid sun between 10 am to 2 pm and if you must go out then wear protective clothing and protect your face especially. A SPF 30 or higher noncomedogenic sunscreen should be applied at least 20 minutes before stepping out.

Eat healthy

Sugary treats, highly processed food, dairy and greasy food are known to trigger acne outbursts. On the other hand fresh fruits, vegetables whole grains are good. Interestingly chocolates lovers need not give up chocolates because they are not linked to acne.

Exercise

Exercise is the panacea for all ills both physical and emotional. Daily exercise will lead to elimination of toxic wastes from the body while releasing the feel good endorphins which are mood enhancers. Wear light and breathable clothing during exercising. Don’t forget to shower.

Keep stress at bay

Stress is one malady that can be avoided. It is believed that acne and pimples worsen during duress. Try to manage your stress levels for an acne free skin.

Over-the-counter medication

Finally there are a few over the counter medications which don’t need any prescription. The main ingredients are benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid. They are supposed to deter bacterial growth. These ingredients will dry the area therefore start with small applications only.
